This is not a "worn out"
guide boat. This is a well-maintained, low usage
bay boat anyone could be proud of. It offers the finest ride I
have ever
personally experienced in the bays. The hull is as dry now as
when it was
built. It has been kept in a covered boat barn since purchased.
It runs in
6" of water, floats in 12" and requires near 20"
of water to get on plane.
It gets on plane in one boat length. At 4500 rpms., it travels
at 37.8 mph
with 4 adults on board. Top-end speed is around 42 mph. The engine
is
extremely fuel-efficient. Typically I can leave the JFK Causeway
and run all
over Baffin Bay all day and come back on around $24. Gas. The
hull is rated
for 7 persons.
I initially purchased this rig in order to be able to offer bay
fishing
charters in addition to the surf fishing charters I have been
doing for
years. I didn't get in a hurry and I chose what I felt was the
safest, most
comfortable riding, shallow running boat available. I still think
it is. I
paid $38,000 for this rig. The problem is that I personally have
no interest
in "Croaker Soaking" charters and it seems those were
the only charters
potential customers were interested in. I find Croaker Soaking
boring, I
find trying to keep baits away from Gulls and Terns all day tedious
and I
personally feel that the "Killing Frenzy" attitude associated
with this type
fishing is devastating the Speckled Trout Fishery. This being
the case I
quit booking these type trips and this fine boat has actually
gotten very
little use. To me, Sportfishing is all about the hunt and the
one on one
interaction between fisher and prey. It's all about being in and
enjoying
the sights and sounds and smells of the Natural World. It's all
about
challenges met and victories won. It's not about piles of fillets
at the end
of the day. As such I have ordered a Hell's Bay Professional Whipray
17' 8"
Flats Boat and will be offering sightcasting flats trips shortly.
These
trips will be limited to 2 persons but will not be available to
flyfishers
exclusively. Any type tackle the customer prefers may be used.
I have found Don Coyote to be a fine companion and hope to find him a good home.
